JOB SUMMARY:
Support the R&D Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Groups through managing new product development programs, custom systems, standard product improvements, and production optimization. The Project Manager plans and designates project resources, develops and tracks schedules, identifies and manages risks, monitors progress, and keeps all stakeholders informed. Additional responsibilities include design support in their area of expertise with priority to be determined by their supervisor.
PERSONNEL SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Although the project manager does not have direct reports with supervisory responsibilities, the project manager will be responsible for direct personnel interactions related to the projects they are managing. Personnel interactions and guidance are a critical role for the project manager.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in generating proposals, estimating development costs and defining resource needs.
- Work with the assigned project team to define the project schedule (inception through release to production, as applicable), key tasks, milestones and critical path.
- Assist the Senior Project Manager with engineering and manufacturing resource planning.
- Manage assigned program schedule(s) to stay on track, monitor progress, and adjust as needed.
- Provide project updates on a regular basis to the various internal and external stakeholders.
- Generate and update all project related top level documents as defined in Lumibird Photonics USA Design Control Procedure.
- Manage the internal and external project meetings and design reviews.
- Manage day-to-day contractual obligations with the client(s).
- Track and report on the project costs and budget.
- Work with Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams to modify the budget and schedule in the event of a customer driven change of scope.
- Identify, formally track, and manage the project risks related to cost, schedule, resource allocation and technical issues.
- Advise the management team on project, technical, design team and customer issues. The project manager is to provide the recommended course of action as related to the project.
- Manage and coordinate material procurement with the Materials Team, Bills of Materials and Work Orders within the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to ensure parts and their associated costs are properly allocated.
- Create and maintain the Design History File to ensure compliance with AS9100.
- Coordinate with the manufacturing engineering team the release of engineering designs into production.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering and Production to optimize the production build flow to meet the required production volume and lead times.
- Interface with customers as required on specifications, applications and installations.
- Ongoing development and improvements to the NPI process. Each program is unique and will require a logical analysis of manufacturing process definition to ensure success.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:
- Strong communicator (verbal and written). Ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and concisely.
- Computer literacy and capable of using MS Office.
- Familiarity with project management and planning tools such as Microsoft Project.
- Ability to work autonomously and with little oversight.
- Proficiency in the use of applicable CAD software.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or equivalent job experience related to the job responsibilities.
- A minimum of 5 years of design experience in industry, including the generation of all required manufacturing documentation.
- Experienced team builder capable of leading, navigating, inspiring and motivating their design team of multiple engineering disciplines through difficult or complex projects.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand and sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to use fingers and hands to manipulate small parts.
- Excellent vision is required to perform job.
- Must be capable of working in front of a computer for long periods of time.
